πππ WATCH THE TRAILER HERE πππ
I know this film has been out for a few years but sometimes these things are hard to find. Mubi put out a brand new trailer for the film. I am always looking out for a great film that tells stories that need to be heard by a global audience. This is Cathy Yan’s debut film and MUBI is releasing it on February 12th. You may know Cathy Yan from her directing Birds of Prey, which I actually reviewed earlier this year and sort of liked. Dead Pigs looks fun and funny and engaging. Review incoming.
Part family drama, part absurdist comedy, all-out social satire: the daring feature debut from Cathy Yan (Birds of Prey) weaves together disparate stories of dreamers and oddballs, recalling the best of Altman. A timely tale of modern-day Shanghai that speaks to the universal need for connection. The fates of an unlucky pig farmer, a feisty home-owner defending her property, a lovestruck busboy, a disenchanted rich girl, and an American expat pursuing the Chinese Dream converge and collide as thousands of dead pigs are found floating down the Huangpu River, towards a modernizing Shanghai.
